Submit your Site to Search Engines

I highly recommend manually submitting your website pages to the search engines.  That said, the search engines give no guarantee of ranking your page because you have manually submitted it.  It is a tool that we use to let the search engines know that we have new information to share.

I suggest manual submission of your site's pages to Google and Bing because they have made it apparent that it is what they prefer.  The search engines have implemented manual submission as a best practice to protect themselves from extreme levels of spam.

It is important to submit your site's pages to all of the major search engines (Google, Bing) because even though the other engines have less traffic than Google, they still have millions of users.   When you submit a URL or domain name to the search engines, it could take anywhere from two to four weeks to get indexed.  Sometimes your page will not get indexed after you submit it, if that occurs, wait four weeks and then resubmit the page again.

It is important before submit your site to create a sitemap (a file xml) and to upload this file to the folder where your site will be host.

Google's URL submit is very quick and easy.  Just go to Google's web page for URL submitting, type in your URL, type in the message that ensures Google you are an individual not a software robot and click "add URL."

You must also submit your site map to Google via their Webmaster Tools.

How to Optimize Your Website for Search Engine

1. The first is your page title. It’s very important to put keywords in your page title; specifically try to get important keywords first and try to limit the overall length of your page title. Well-constructed title tags contain the main keyword for the page. It should contain less than 65 characters with no stop words such as: a, if, the, then, and, an, to, etc. Your title tag should also be limited to the use of alphanumeric characters, hyphens, and commas.

2. Header Tags - Next, it’s important to look at the header tags on your site-h1, h2, h3, h4 and so on. H1 is the most significant. Make sure you have the most important keyword labeled as h1 tag. This will help you with ranking for your site, especially if someone is searching for that particular key word or phrase.

3. Page Content - Next up is the content. You definitely want to put your keywords in the contents somewhere, but the object, though, is to make sure the content is very well written for visitors to your website. You want to insert the keywords for that page only where it makes sense. Page content should have between 300 and 700 words of descriptive content that contains the keywords specified in the keywords meta tag for the page. You also want to try to optimize your URLs. Make sure to include important keywords in the URL.

4. Meta Tags - Next are the Meta keywords and Meta description. These are pieces of code behind the scene. The code should look something like this: It should be placed directly under the title tag code

6. Have web analytics in place at the start. You should have clearly defined goals for your SEO efforts, and you’ll need web analytics software in place so you can track what’s working and what’s not.
